DEAD PREZ and evergreen state college

I love getting 5 am phone calls, especially ones telling me our show just ended in a "riot". And that goes x100 when the students of Evergreen State College in Olympia WA are involved.

Here's the story: Dead Prez played what was, by the numerous firsthand reviews given to me, a phenomenal show at Evergreen on the night of Feb 14 (Valentine's Day!). Near the end of DPZ's set a fight allegedly broke out. A campus police officer attempted to arrest a suspect, a larger group got involved, and it turned into a scene. The kind that involves overturned cop cars.

Today there will be an official press conference to set the record straight. There have been many lies and bad spin put on Dead Prez, on Evergreen students, and on the performance itself, put out by the local media who are seeming to go out of their way to get it wrong. These negative statements been reprinted and regurgitated on blogs and websites.

Unfortunately, last Friday's performance at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma WA was postponed by the administration as a result of the bad press. Many people put a lot of hard work into making that show happen, and I am very sorry that Dead Prez were not allowed to perform. Evergreen being Evergreen, I predict M-1 and stic.man will be brought back for a seminar on the incident...

More to come after the press conference.
